In 1989, after two terms in office, Ronald Wilson Reagan left the White House highly addictive presidents of the 20th century — and one of the most controversial. A Democrat turned Republican and an actor turned politician, Reagan is really a study in complexity. He believed in balanced budgets but never submitted one, feared a nuclear apocalypse but built an enormous stockpile of weapons, and preached family values while presiding over a dysfunctional family.
In 1911, Ronald Reagan is born, the 40th President of the United States (d. 2001). Reagan tried to get the Republican nomination for president in 1968, and then in 1976, at the expense according to the time President Gerald Forld, but was defeated in the Republican Convention. He managed to get the nomination for president, the Republicans in 1980. The campaign, led by William J. Casey, was extremely affected by the Iran hostage crisis, most political analysts believed that President Jimmy Carter inability to solve this crisis has played a crucial role in Reagan’s victory against him in elections in 1980 . Reagan’s behavior during the debates of presidential candidates campaign improved. He seemed to feel more relaxed, seemed almost to mock the president in office by remarks, these lines not having to be refused facts to be effective. Reagan’s reply, which may have influenced the outcome of the vote, was his final question, addressed to the public, in the context of increasing global oil prices and extremely high interest unpopular Federal Reserve, Is it better off now than four years ? Reagan’s victory was accompanied by a shift of 11 seats from Democrats in the hands of Republicans, giving the latter a majority in the Senate for the first time in decades. Once the election, Reagan became the oldest elected president at the age of almost 70 years (ie, 69 years and 349 days).
In the 1984 presidential election, was elected vice-president detached in front of Carter, Walter Mondale, winning 49 of the 50 states and winning nearly 60 percent of the popular vote. Although it has had a poor first debate, Reagan recovered lost ground in the second debate, and standing in the polls significantly better than Mondale, along the entire race. The day before the election, Mondale made a speech which was considered as the final nail in the coffin political beat. In this speech, he said Regan will increase taxes. Reagan will not admit it. Reagan’s victory in early elections and the advance of when he got elected a second time, are assigned so-called Reagan’s Democracy a new political force appeared, but disorganized.
On March 30, 1981, President Ronald Reagan was shot in the chest outside a hotel in Washington, DC, by a mentally disturbed drifter named John Hinckley Jr. shot President was left lung, but a 22 caliber bullet slightly missed his heart. Making an impressive gesture for a man 70 years with lung not working, the president went by himself to George Washington University Hospital. While he was treated and prepared for surgery, Reagan was a very good mood, joking with his wife, Nancy. Reagan’s surgery lasted two hours, after announcing that the president is stabilized and the situation is good. The next day, the president resumed some of his executive functions and has signed a law on hospital bed. On April 11, came back to the White House. Reagan’s popularity surged after the attempted assassination and the end of April was greeted as a hero in Congress. In August, the same Congress adopted the controversial or economic program. Several Democrats voted differently than their party, saying Reagan’s plan. Reagan claimed at the time to full recovery after an assassination attempt. However, in private life he would still feel for many years the effects of gunshot wound that was almost fatal.
As president, Reagan unleashed a dramatic sequence of economic and political initiatives that became known as “the Reagan revolution“. He invested in an enormous military buildup, challenged the Soviet Union, involved tax cuts and less government. Supporters credit Reagan with winning the Cold War, as well as restoring America’s self-confidence and rebuilding its economic and military strength. Detractors assert that the “prosperity” of your Reagan years was built on borrowed money, driving in the national debt and benefiting the wealthy in exchange for the indegent. Reagan’s legacy is still in dispute, but his impact on American life and politics is unmistakable.
